Juneteenth: Our Newest National Holiday
Juneteenth, or Emancipation Day, was made a national holiday on June 17, 2021. It is the anniversary of June 19, 1865, when the last group of slaves in Texas were told that they were free. The Juneteenth flag is based on the American flag. It has a white star on a red and blue background. The ring around the star represents a bright new life of freedom and hope for everyone.
