Well, it’s getting to the end of the school year. Do you know what that means? It means everyone is thinking about Spring Break. Naturally, this makes it harder for us teachers to keep our students motivated. They want to play games and not have homework. I can understand their feelings. So, I do my best to make things more fun. 

One website that they particularly enjoy is called Blooket. It’s an educational website designed to provide interactive quizzes for the students that help make learning fun. Here you can see my 4th grade students playing a Blooket quiz I designed to showcase past tense irregular verbs. This is something that is usually pretty difficult for students of Japanese. In a game format, however, they master the vocabulary quite quickly.

学年末に近づいていますね。それは、 春休みのことを考えている人がみんないるということです。当然、 それは私たち教師が生徒たちのモチベーションを維持するのが難し くなることを意味します。生徒たちはゲームをしたり、 宿題をしないことを望んでいます。 私は彼らの気持ちを理解できます。ですから、 私はもっと楽しくするように心がけています。

 生徒たちが特に楽しんでいるウェブサイトの1つは、Blooketと呼ばれます。これは、 学習を楽しくするインタラクティブなクイズを提供するために設計された教育用のウェブサイトです。ここでは、 私が設計した過去形の不規則動詞を紹介するBlooketクイズ を、4年生の生徒たちがプレイしている様子が見られます。 これは、 日本人の生徒たちにとっては通常かなり難しいことですが、ゲーム形式であれば、 語彙をかなり速くマスターすることができます。
